Bees

Need a new project? Got some spare time? Mini-Groups, or Bees, are a great way to make some new friends, finish some of those works in progress or just sit and swap stories! Many meet regularly and new groups are forming now.

Click here to visit the list of Bees currently meeting.

If you'd like a list of Bees you can join, contact Gina Snyder at bees@longmontquiltguild.org.

Block of the Month

Block of the month is a fun and easy way to learn a new
block each month, win lots of blocks to make a quilt top or even make a block to donate to the Community Outreach quilt projects!

Click here for Block of the Month information and rules.

February's Block of the Month is
"Annie's Choice"

annie'schoice

This block only LOOKS complicated: it's really just half-square triangles, and it's fast and easy to piece! Do a few of them to increase your odds of winning these stunning blue and white stars, and you'll have a warm quilt to chase away the winter blues in no time at all!

Community Outreach

Join us again in January for a New Year of quilting for Community Outreach!

Thank you so much to all who participated in Community Outreach in 2011—
because of your help and dedication to this project, we were once again able to
exceed our goal of 100 quilts this year!

Sew with us on Saturday, February 4th and Saturday, April 7th
from 10am to 4pm in the Fireside Room
(upstairs on the NorthEast side of the building) at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church
(where our monthly guild meetings are held).
We will be working from kits that are already cut for you. Bring your sewing machine, your notions (pins, scissors, rotary cutting supplies, etc.—things you need to sew), an extension cord, and your lunch. Can't join us or can't stay and sew? We have kits in all stages of completion that you can pick up at a guild meeting to take home with you. All skill levels are welcome. Whether you want to piece a quilt top, quilt it, bind it or just sew on labels, we have something you can help with! This is a fun way to get to know other guild members and maybe even learn some new techniques and tricks!

For additional information, you can contact us at outreach@longmontquiltguild.org.

Are you cleaning and tidying your fabric stash? Do you
have fabric you want to donate to a wonderful community cause?
Longmont Quilt Guild would love for you to consider donating to the Community Outreach Committee Stash! We are a non-profit organization and can provide tax-deduction receipts for you.

and information.

Pink Quilts

This year the Longmont Quilt Guild gave nine quilts to breast cancer survivors and those undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
Thank you so much to all who made blocks, helped cut kits, put together quilt tops, and quilted and bound these beautiful pink quilts. Your committment has made a difference to our friends and family who are fighters and survivors, and we are grateful to you for
helping us honor them in this special way!

We will once again participate in
Quilt for a Cure in 2012, and continue
promoting breast cancer awareness in our community. If you would like to work on this
special project in a coordinating role, please
contact Jenn Lowry at
outreach@longmontquiltguild.org or
Von Yetzer at
president@longmontquiltguild.org.

All you need to do is download the nomination form, print it out and fill in the blanks, and submit it to the guild's Board for consideration.

If you need further information regarding Comfort Quilts, please contact Jenn Lowry, the Community Outreach Committee Chair, at outreach@longmontquiltguild.org.

Heart Block Pattern

If you would like to make a heart block to send to a fellow guild member who is in need of a little extra TLC or who has good news to share, please let a Board Member know so that we can mention it in this section of our website!

Please keep the following LQG members in your thoughts and prayers:

Helen Schmitt's husband passed away recently. Please send Helen your love.

Our deepest sympathies and condolences to Lis Lord whose mother passed away recently.

LuAnn Klida's mother also passed away recently—please keep her family in your prayers.

Christine Broers is recovering from extensive ankle surgery.

Beth Purkett's father recently passed away—please send Beth and her family your love.

Jenelle Fleming's mother also passed away recently—keep Jenelle and her family in your thoughts.

Sara Broers Brown continues radiation treatment.

The unfinished block size is 3.5" square and is simple to make. All you need to do is download the pattern, print it out, and applique the heart shape (your choice of method) to a 3.5" background square.

This is a thoughtful and easy way to show these ladies that we're thinking of them —
imagine getting a mailbox full of hearts!
You can get their home addresses from the guild roster, and if you need a current copy of the roster please email your request to our Webmaster at webmaster@longmontquiltguild.org.

Round Robin/Medallion Quilt Challenge

Lots of guild members who participated in the Round Robin Challenge last year had a lot of fun. If you'd like to participate in this challenge, the rules are simple—it all starts with an orphan quilt block, an embroidered design or something like that for the center. After travelling home with a few guild members over a few months, you'll get your Round Robin quilt back with all kinds of borders added to the center or "medallion" you started with! See Marci Riedel at a guild meeting if you have questions.

Click here for more information and rules.

Marci will take your Round Robin at any guild meeting and you can join the fun
by taking someone else's home with you!

These are other sites we think are really great—local businesses who support the guild and have websites, other area guilds you might want to check out and Longmont Quilt Guild members who have websites. If you're a current Longmont Quilt Guild member or advertiser and would like us to post a link to your (quilting-related) website, please email our Webmaster at webmaster@longmontquiltguild.org.
